Zo the Hornet During his second year in the NBA Alonzo continued to dominate, averaging 21.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Mourning, who missed 22 games with injuries, watched his team lose 16 of those games. They went 35-25 with Zo in the lineup, but did not make the playoffs.

Alonzo was named as a reserve in the 1994 NBA All-Star game, but had a torn calf muscle and was unable to play. As Larry Johnson missed time with injuries, Mourning took over and became the team’s main option.

The highlight of the year came when Zo scored 36 against Denver, and in the next game against Utah, once again scored 36 points.

Alonzo was named to the infamous Dream Team 2 during the summer of 1994, to participate in the Basketball World Championships in Toronto. Although they easily won the gold, their conduct on the court irritated the international fans. During the tournament, Mourning averaged 10.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in merely 13 minutes per game, while making .685 from the field.
