With Mourning in charge Charlotte had their best season ever, finishing at 50-32 and the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference. Mourning finished his third NBA season having averaged 21.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 2.92 blocks per game, while making .519 from the field. He joined Hakeem
Olajuwon, Dana Barros and Scottie Pippen as the only players in the league to lead their teams in four major statistical categories.
Zo made the All-Star team once again, and scored 10 points and 8 rebounds, and once again scored a high of 36 points two times.
In the playoffs, the Hornets were unfortunate enough to come across Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. Charlotte lost, although Mourning averaged 22 points and 13.3 rebounds during the four games against Chicago.
